A girl with curly hair, a helmet, and a backpack riding her bike. Medium — great for kids.
Curly hair is the texture challenge of this page, so build it in two browns — a mid-brown base, then darker curls picked out in the swirls. The helmet sits on top in yellow or orange, and the backpack is free to be the wildest pattern on the page. Keep the face light and simple — the hair is busy enough for the whole portrait.
Backpacks take patterns beautifully: alternate two or three colors panel by panel, or fill it with drawn polka dots and stripes of your own. Keep the bike one calm color underneath all that personality so the eye travels from hair to helmet to backpack in order. A patterned backpack is also a forgiving place for a young colorist’s wobbles; patterns hide everything.
