A tall striped lighthouse stands on smooth rocks by the sea, with gentle waves, a small sailboat in the distance, and two seagulls in a sunny sky. Easy — wide stripes and open water.
Give the lighthouse classic red-and-white bands, or try navy and white for a different stretch of coast. The smooth rocks read well in grays with a hint of brown, the sea in layered blues and greens, and the little sailboat with a white sail and a red or yellow hull. A pale sky with a plain round sun keeps the whole scene calm and bright.
Work from the top down: sky and sun first, then the lighthouse bands — coloring every other band first helps keep the stripes even. Short, wavy strokes in two blues make lively water without any fuss. The two seagulls are tiny; a single light gray line along each wing is all they need to take flight.
