An elf boy hanging an ornament on a Christmas tree wrapped in garland. Medium — great for kids.
An elf mid-decoration calls for process colors: his outfit in classic green and red, the ornament in his hand the brightest red on the page, and the tree’s garland in gold spiraling behind him. Half the tree can look finished and half plain, which is the honest charm of a decorating scene caught in the middle of the job.
Color the garland first in one unbroken spiral so it reads as a single strand, then fill the tree around it. The ornament he is hanging gets a white gel-pen highlight and a slightly darker bottom curve, making it look round and glassy. A few ornaments already hung can repeat his red in smaller, duller doses.
