Number 10 — ten. The first two-digit number: a tall 1 and a round 0 to color, with ten apples in two full rows of five. Trace 10 down both dotted rows, write it alone, and trace the word ten.
Ten is the first two-digit number: a tall straight 1 and a round 0 standing side by side, both the same height. The tracing rows slow down here, and that is the point — two shapes, two starting points, one number. Ten apples fill two full rows of five, so kids can count 5, 10 by groups or go one by one.
Extension: ten is two hands — hold up all ten fingers, wiggle them, and count them twice. Then draw ten more apples in a basket in the margin and count the harvest: ten on the sheet plus ten in the basket makes the next big number, twenty.
