A realistic horse mid-stride, with finely detailed mane and tail linework. Detailed — best for teens and adults.
Realistic linework rewards a patient, layered approach. Start with a light base over the whole body, then deepen the shadowed side — under the belly, behind the legs, along the neck — with a second and third layer. Short strokes in the direction of hair growth keep the coat from looking flat.
The mane and tail have fine strands drawn in; color them in sections, darkest where strands overlap and lightest on the edges that would catch sun. A mid-stride pose looks faster if the background stays minimal — a few horizontal strokes of grass green at the hooves suggests ground without competing with the detail you worked for.
