A squirrel with finely drawn fur perches on a tree branch, its bushy tail curled behind it. Medium — great for kids.
Because the fur is finely drawn here, colored pencils give you the most control. Build the coat in layers of gray, warm brown, and a touch of cream, letting the palest shade sit on the tail where it curls behind. Color the branch in rich bark brown, with moss green tucked into the crevices for a woodland feel.
Follow the direction of the drawn fur with short pencil strokes instead of scribbling across it, and press lighter on raised areas and firmer in shadow. Leave the tail’s curled edge light for contrast. You can draw in a few tiny falling leaves around the branch as an addition if you want extra autumn movement.
